In Korea, poems are attached to all subway screen doors. These poems are selected by the government, not by passengers. The poems in the subway stations are limited to lyrical and emotional ones, without including poems which contain reality reflections. Also, the poems have nothing to do with the station where they are attached. 
I thought that these selected poems had authorized intentions in favor of the government or the system. So I displayed my own 7 poems that reflect our real lives and are related to the station-subway line 2 which contains many social meanings in Seoul, Korea.

I made the poems' forms almost identical to the original ones, so the poems were not removed but they even arranged by station employees, even though the content was very aggressive and sexual.(Image #1 : the text on the white paper, attached by a station employee, means : it is under care).
This was the turn over of a common idea that people take for granted. This performance is questioning and keeping distance from the government's one-sided culture delivery. In other words, it is a demand for interactive communication.

 

강남역을 비롯한 2호선 7개 역사 스크린도어에 직접 쓴 시를

붙이는 퍼포먼스

지하철 스크린도어에 붙어있는 시들은 국가기관이라는 권위적

선별자에 의해 선정되어 탑승자들에게 일방향적으로 주어지는

강요와 같은 것이다. 대부분이 서정시 위주의 현실을 도외시하는 시들이 주를 이루며, 해당 역사와의 연계성도 전무하다. 그래서

현실을 직접적으로 묘사하며, 해당역의 상징성과도 연관이 되는 시들을 지어 기존의 스크린도어 시들과 유사한 형식으로 제작한 뒤 스크린도어에 부착하였다. 특히 서울 2호선 지하철은 한국 사회 내부의 다양한 함의를 지닌 까닭에 2호선 7개 역사를 선정하여 2012년 10월 28일 부착하였다.

여타 역사의 시들이 일주일가량 흘러 제거 된 후에도 강남역과

삼성역에 시는 3개월 가량 유지되었다. 특히 강남역의 시는 역무원들에 의해서 주변 더러워진 시트지가 정돈되기도 하였으며, 추후 ‘점검 중 조치 예정’이라는 안내가 붙여지는 등 그들 스스로가 만든 권위에 오히려 자신들이 속박 당하는 모습을 보여주기도 하였다. 

이 퍼포먼스는 대중들이 무심코 순응해왔던 국가의 권위적인 문화 전달에 대한 의문이자 거리두기이며 쌍방향적인 소통을 위해 던지는 권위를 향한 요구이다.
